Greek Oregano Seeds

Looking for a robust herb that thrives in your garden and packs a punch in the kitchen? Check out Park Seed’s Greek oregano, the authentic “wild oregano” originally hailing from Greece. This particular variety stands out with a more potent aroma and flavor, making it an essential in Italian, Greek, and Mexican cuisine. It particularly shines when paired with robust ingredients like tomatoes, onions, garlic, and beef.
As a bushy perennial, Greek oregano showcases bright, deep purple-brown stems and broad, ovate leaves that can span up to 1.5 inches, sometimes flaunting a red tinge. Throughout the summer, you’ll be treated to branched clusters of purple-pink flowers that add a touch of beauty to any garden. Expect this hardy plant to reach about 18 inches in both height and width at full maturity.
Keep in mind that Greek oregano’s peak culinary period lasts about five years. After that, it may become more woody, which, while visually appealing, can diminish the leaves’ flavor and texture. When your oregano reaches this stage, allow it to flower and set new seeds for a fresh start in spring. Starting seeds is a breeze, whether in well-drained to dry, neutral to alkaline soil under full sun, or indoors using your Bio Dome or seed flats. Germination takes roughly two weeks. Even if you’re not using the fresh leaves for your dishes, regular trimming throughout the growing season promotes more foliage and better branching, keeping your oregano lush and productive. Packet contains approximately 1.5 grams.
